Ingridients
- 225g ground beef
- ½ medium onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (chopped)
- ½ tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon chili powder (or more if you like it spicy)
- 200g chopped tomatoes (fire-roasted tomatoes are great in this recipe.)
- ½ teaspoon EACH: sea salt and pepper
- 4 hot dogs or sausages
- 4 hot dog buns, cut in half on one side
- 125ml shredded cheddar cheese
- chopped green onion or jalapeno (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Add the ground beef to a small pot over medium heat. Cook until you see a little fat in the pan, then add the onion and garlic. Continue cooking until the meat is no longer pink and the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the honey and chili powder to the pot and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes to caramelize the honey, then add the diced tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Let the chili simmer over low heat while you prepare the sausages and buns.
- Cook the sausages and warm the buns over a fire, on a grill, or in a pan on the stove. When cooked, place a sausage in each bun and top with ¼ cup chili, 2 tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese, and some green onions.
