This is an easy Texas chili recipe that any Texas mom could make during the week for her family or for a special occasion. A simple and authentic Texas classic, this chili has a bit of heat, but you can adjust the recipe to suit your own spice level. This chili tastes even better the second day, so it’s great for making the day before or just for leftovers!
Ingridients:
Original recipe (1X) for 8 servings
- 900 grams lean ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 large bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cans pinto beans
- 2 cans diced tomatoes
- 4 cans tomato sauce
- 120g chili peppers
- 3 jalapeño peppers, chopped (optional)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Optional additions: raw chopped onion, grated cheese (cheddar is best!)
Instructions:
- Cook and stir the beef, onion, and bell pepper in a large pot over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion and bell pepper are tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and discard the fat.
- Stir in the beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili pepper, jalapeños, red pepper flakes, black pepper, salt, and garlic powder. Bring to a gentle boil, then cover and reduce the heat.
Simmer the chili, stirring occasionally to prevent burning, for at least 30 minutes or even a few hours; the longer you simmer, the more intense the flavor will be!
Enjoy!
